Small Blindern Residence

This beautiful home, near University of Oslo, was bought in 2006 by Kaja and Petter. The couple spent a whole year on planning how the end results would be.

In the living room there is plenty of room for everyone

In the living room there is plenty of room for everyone. The shelf is installed on the full width of the  room. Not only is it convenient, but it also creates the illusion of a wider space. The black chair is Poul Kjærholms PK 22 from Fritz Hansen, the table is from Norrgavel and the sofa from Ikea. The painting is by Liv Heier.

While planning the renovation, they lived in the house throughout the seasons, looking at the light and how they could make the house work best for them. And they got to spend the time they needed to get into everything they had to decide on, both technical and aesthetic, in order to make qualified decisions.

Old leather chair between living and dining rooms

Between the living room and the dining room stands Kaja's great-grandfather's old leather chair. Dining tables and chairs are classics by Hans J. Wegner from Carl Hansen & Son.

Kitchen with storage

The house is not that big and they needed all the space they could get. All storage goes from wall to wall, and for Kaja, almost every sport went into utilizing every inch.

The kitchen is large and airy

The kitchen is large and airy, and the gray-painted decor camouflages the appliances. By dropping the cupboards over the kitchen counter, the room appears larger and the daylight is allowed to let in completely.

The seating is made bya carpenter, while the chairs are vintage by Charles and Ray Eames and Arne Jacobsen.

A consistent color palette goes back in all the elements of the bedroom

A consistent color palette goes back in all the elements of the bedroom. The bedside table is from Norrgavel, the lamps by Christian Dell. The bedspread is from Aiayu. The art on the right is by Sissel Schlømer, on the left by Åke Nilsson.

One children's room is under staircase

One children's room is under staircase. Carpentry shelves were used, giving the area that would otherwise have been unused, a useful feature.

The childrens room

The children's room is not so big, but airy and tidy - thanks to the space-built bed with shelf drawers that hold unmatched quantities of Lego.

The oiled oak gives a warm expression and a nice contrast to the otherwise bright colors

The bathroom got a custom made bench to utilize the full width of the room. The oiled oak gives a warm expression and a nice contrast to the otherwise bright colors.

Attic

The attic has become a wonderful work space with large windows that let daylight into the workplace, and starry sky over the evening work. And for Kaja, who is a man of order, the space-built shelving system works like a dream. The comfortable chairs are Aluminum Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames from Vitra.

So, did you like Kaja and Petter's sober and accomplished style?
